Teaching and Outreach Interests
Leadership development, community leadership, sustainable agriculture, and community development in rural areas.
In the Laboratory for Community and Economic Development, Anne has developed initiatives in creating leadership development programs for citizen leaders and technical assistance providers, through a project funded by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and the Office of Research, College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES). The program provides processes and materials for learners to develop skills in leadership, creating information foundations for development decisions, managing conflict, and planning and managing change and development.
Anne chairs the planning committee and hosts the annual statewide conference for community leadership; works on funded projects in sustainable agriculture, alternative crops and local foods. Anne serves on the Advisory Board for the Peace Corps Fellows Program at Western Illinois University ; serves on the Board of the International Community Development Society; is on the Board of Directors of Illinois Rural Partners; and is a member of various committees and task forces for ACES, University of Illinois Extension, and the State of Illinois.
The Laboratory for Community and Economic Development (LCED) was created to support community and economic development efforts of local residents, their governments and representatives. The Laboratory provides information and educational programs, and conducts research on economic and social issues that are relevant to communities and community leaders. The Laboratory partners with University of Illinois Extension Educators who work in communities; county Unit Leaders who plan for and administer educational programming of the University of Illinois ; state agency staff working in community and economic development; community leaders and local organization leaders; and community and economic development professionals in the region and the nation.
