Research Interests

Human sexuality and the family, with particular emphasis adult infertility; loss and resiliency associated with family disruptions; qualitative methods.

I have always been intrigued that topics of research on human sexuality tend initially to focus on females and their "responsibility" for certain social problems, such as adolescent pregnancy and adult infertility. As a result, my research has conceptualized these concerns from a more balanced gender perspective, with attention to both male and female roles. I also have tried to utilize findings from my research to develop programs that focus on prevention, client empowerment and community education.

Students

I would like to work with students whose primary interests are in applied family/social work. In my own research I have used qualitative data to examine family disequilibrium and ways that family members achieve resiliency.
