Research interests:
Fatherhood; parenthood
In my work in the NICHD (National Institute of Child Health and Human Development) Transition to Fatherhood Network, I am studying the intergenerational learning of fatherhood by studying linkages between the fathering a young man has received and his own fathering behavior, in the context of mothering and other aspects of family process. I am also studying the interrelationships between fatherhood role transitions and transitions in other life roles such as completion of education, beginning fulltime employment, cohabitation, and marriage. In addition to using several existing national datasets with diverse samples for these analyses, I am collecting additional data in a new national survey, the 2008 National Survey of Adult Men, the fourth data collection in a longitudinal study of 1880 men first whom I first surveyed in 1988 when they were teens.
I would like to work with students interested in fatherhood, in any context.
