Position:  Professor, Human Development and Family Studies, full-time (50% teaching, 30% research, 20% extension), tenure-track, 9-month academic year appointment. The successful candidate will hold the title of Director of the Family Resiliency Center which will require an additional 2 months in administrative service.

Description:     A senior faculty position with expectations for research, teaching and outreach activities, in addition to serving as the Director of the Family Resiliency Center (FRC).  The Department is seeking a scholar with areas of emphasis in family resilience and positive human development that will complement or strengthen our existing areas: children’s social and emotional development; parent-child and other family relationships; gender/sexuality; and race/ethnicity; resilient family processes; and community contexts.  The Director of the FRC provides overall leadership to the Center and manages The Pampered Chef Family Resiliency Program, including public lectures, graduate fellowships, and faculty research grants.

Family Resiliency Center:  The Family Resiliency Center is focused on enhancing positive human development and resilience in families through innovative research, education, and public engagement activities that strengthen families’ abilities to support and nurture their children and to be resilient in the face of life’s challenges.  The Center seeks to promote interdisciplinary collaboration among scientists engaged in basic and applied research that will advance knowledge and practice about children and families.  The FRC is headquartered in Christopher Hall, furnished with state-of-the-art research, teaching and outreach facilities, including a Research Home equipped with a family interaction observation suite with video recording capabilities and dedicated control and data coding rooms.  The FRC’s Resource Center provides information to families and professionals in the community, as well as, provides opportunities for student engagement.

Qualifications: Earned Doctorate in human development, family studies or related discipline.  A record of academic scholarship and teaching and/or outreach that meets the qualifications for tenure at the level of full professor at UIUC is required.  Candidates must possess a commitment to and vision for the Family Resiliency Center and the role of an interdisciplinary center in fostering positive human development and resilient families.   Desired qualifications include:  a recognized national and international scholarly reputation; leadership and/or administrative experience; the ability to advance interdisciplinary teaching, research, and outreach initiatives; the ability to secure funding from public and private sources; and the ability to work with external constituencies.

Salary:   Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
