Fay Hodza

  • BS (Honors) in Sociology from the University of Zimbabwe (2001)
  • Masters in Sociology and Social Anthropology from the University of Zimbabwe (2003)
  • Currently working on PhD in Human & Community Development

Advisor: Soo Ah Kwon

Professional/Research Interests: Innovative youth leadership development, youth programming and poverty alleviation and outcomes of youth engagement in rural communities in Africa.

Honors and Awards: Fulbright Fellowship, HCD Ernest Anderson Graduate Fellowship, Africa University/Kellogg Foundation Youth Leadership Trainer, Ambassador of Goodwill for the State of Arkansas, USA.

As a graduate student in CSO l enjoy the intellectually engaging learning environment in the HCD department. The program does not only facilitate learning but it also allows the student to develop a critical mind through exposure to a wide range of debates, theoretical ideas and real life examples.

I chose Illinois because it is one of the well-known universities in the US and the world over. The university's emphasis on unity in diversity is a fundamental value which helps to create a safe place for academic and professional development.

What I like best about Illinois is that it has people from different parts of the world. There is a huge potential for intercultural exchange.

Hometown: Mutare, Zimbabwe

Hobbies: Travelling and playing volleyball. I am also developing an interest in bowling.
