As an HCD graduate student I love the supportive environment. The department is made up of a close-knit group of students and faculty, which makes it easy to learn and grow as a graduate student.

I chose Illinois because everyone was so friendly! The department is well known and respected, and yet it is still very personable. When I came to visit, I got the impression that everyone genuinely wanted to see you succeed. When looking at other universities, I sometimes felt like I got "lost in the system", so I really appreciated the welcoming atmosphere in HCD.

What I like best about Illinois: Urbana/Champaign is a great place to live! There a lot of nice restaurants, parks, cultural activities, and a lot of great coffee shops for studying! It is also very accessible, with an excellent public transportation system!

Hometown: Cleveland, Ohio

Hobbies: Horseback riding, vintage shopping, traveling, reading

Fun Fact: I studied abroad in South Africa as an undergraduate student.
