Professional/Research Interests: Adolescent/youth development, adolescent culture, family and community influences on risk and protective factors for low-income, minority youth. Prevention and intervention programs that promote resiliency for this population.

Honors and Awards: Graduate College McNair Fellowship, McNair Scholar

I chose Illinois because ...I like the interdisciplinary approach to social science research in the department.

What I like best about Illinois…The university and program is very prestigious, and I am close to my family.

I am professionally involved in: Society for Community Research and Action (SCRA)

Hometown: ... East St. Louis, IL

Hobbies: ...cooking, working out, volleyball, movie nights, shopping, skating, painting, trying different cultural foods, eating frozen yogurt, etc.

Fun Fact: …I was about 10 feet away from a sting ray in the ocean this summer.
