ACES Communications students complete a minimum of 20 semester hours in College of Communications course work in one of three specializations: advertising, broadcast journalism, or news-editorial journalism. Additional courses in agricultural communications help them build communication planning skills and while learning and practicing how to present science-based information to varied audiences via multiple communication channels. To round out their degree programs, ACES Communications students work with their academic advisors to select courses from College of ACES departments that will enhance their competence in the areas of agricultural production and management, family and consumer sciences, or environmental and natural resources. Most ACES Communications students complete at least one extended (usually summer) internship during their undergraduate years, and many gain valuable experience working for campus and community communications outlets during the school year. ACES Communications graduates typically find employment in writing, editing, and publishing; public relations; advertising; broadcasting; cooperative extension work; training and program development; and other communication-related positions in agricultural and environmental agencies and businesses throughout the public and private sectors.
