NOTE: This 4-year plan shows just one way a student may complete courses to meet graduation requirements in the HDFS child and adolescent development concentration. Many courses, especially those meeting campus General Education requirements, may be taken in a different order than is shown here. Students planning pre-med or other pre-professional programs, or planning a semester's study abroad, will need to make significant changes from this plan; click to see plans for pre-med or for study abroad. Notes:
Students must complete the QR 1 (MATH) requirement by the start of third year. Students must complete HDFS 105, HDFS 120 and PSYC 100 by the start of third year.
The combination of RHET 100, 101 and 102 is the equivalent of RHET 105, as is the combination of RHET 103 and 104. Students may satisfy the ACES composition and speech requirement with RHET 105 (or its equivalent) and CMN 101, or with CMN 111 and 112.
Because HDFS 301 is a prerequisite for HDFS 401, students must complete it during fall semester of sophomore or junior year.
Students must complete one of the following to meet the “applied development elective” requirement: HDFS 206, 294 (3 hours), 406 or 450.
Students must complete one of the following to meet the “diversity elective” requirement: HDFS 208, 321, 340, 341 or 422. Not all are available in fall semester.
Students must complete one of the following to meet the “family studies elective” requirement: HDFS 420, 421, 425, or 426. Not all are available in spring semester.
ACES electives include courses in ACE, AGCM, AGED, ANSC, CPSC, HORT, NRES, and TSM. Students must complete at least six hours of ACES electives.
Cultural Studies requirements may be met by courses that simultaneously meet another graduation requirement. Many Gen Ed Humanities courses also meet the CSW or CSN requirement.
Students must earn at least 126 semester hours of credit (not including MATH 012 or 016) to be eligible for graduation. At least 60 hours must be earned in courses at UIUC, and at least 21 hours must be earned in advanced (300- or 400-level) UIUC course work.
