HCD 536 EDUCATION & HUMAN CAPITAL

Course objectives
The goal of the course is to provide an in-depth examination of foundational, philosophical, contemporary issues, and emerging research topics in the fields of experiential, career, and outreach education. Students will examine how career and outreach education builds human capital for local communities through career and leadership development, youth and adult learning, and experiential and life-long learning.
At the end of this course, students should:
- Explore historical and philosophical influences that shaped the development of experiential, career, and outreach education.
- Identify how a community learns and the role education and information systems have in developing human capital in communities.
- Understand different education systems (career/workforce education, informal learning & outreach education) that develop human capital in communities.
- Discuss contemporary issues and emerging research topics in the fields of experiential, career and outreach education communities.
- Apply a conceptual framework and standards of inquiry in studying educational systems and create a proposal that would study a human development program within the context of community.
- Situate themselves as future professionals and contributing scholars in experiential, career, and outreach education.
