Scholarships

Undergraduates in HCD curricula have one of the widest ranges of scholarship opportunties in the College of ACES, including HCD-administered awards and general ACES scholarships. Continue reading to learn more about specific scholarship opportunties and the scholarship application process.

HCD Administered Scholarships

Agricultural and Environmental Communications and Education

The ACES Communications program offers approximately 15 scholarships each year to continuing students in ACES Communications. These scholarships, awarded on the basis of both merit and need, carry one-time awards of $500. Scholarship recipients in one year may apply for a scholarship the following year.

The application deadline for ACES Communications scholarships is June 1 for awards the following year. Agricultural communications students who wish to apply for one of these scholarships should obtain an application form from Robert Siebrecht, 143 Bevier Hall. Two Doak Scholarships are available each year to agricultural education students to help defray costs incurred during the semester of student teaching. Recipients are selected on the basis of both academic merit and financial need. Senior students interested in the Doak scholarship should apply by October 1 of the semester prior to student teaching for awards to be applied during the following spring semester. Human Development and Family Studies

The Joyce I. Nies Scholarship in Human Development and Family Studies each year awards $2,000 to two HDFS students. These scholarships result from a generous gift to the University by Dr. Joyce I. Nies, a native of St. Clair County who received her B.S. in vocational home economics, her M.S. in child development, and her Ph.D in education from the University of Illinois. The application deadline for the Nies Scholarships is May 1 of each year. HDFS students with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.4 who will have completed at least 60 hours of credit by the end of the spring semester are eligible to apply. Nies Scholarship application form


The Clareta Walker Scholarship for Interns in Human Development and Family Studies each year awards $500 to two HDFS students enrolled in HDFS 450, Practicum in HDFS. Preference is given to students whose internship experiences will deal with adolescents. The application deadline for the Walker Scholarships is December 15 or each year. College of ACES General Scholarship Information

A number of scholarships for undergraduate students enrolled in the College of ACES are made available through the generous support of alumni and friends of the College. The updated College of ACES scholarship listing and application are available to undergraduate students in mid-March from the Student Development and Career Services office in 115 ACES Library, or at students.aces.uiuc.edu/scholarships/aces.

Applications must be filed by June 1 for a student to receive consideration for scholarship awards in the next academic year. Recipients will be selected on the basis of specific scholarship criteria and academic merit. Scholarship recipients in most recent years have had a grade-point average above 3.3. For some scholarships, students must also have applied for and received eligibility for aid from the Office of Student Financial Aid, 620 E. John St., Champaign, 333-0100, www.osfa.uiuc.edu.
